What I want to depict in this project is the horrible but inevitable experience that everybody might have throughout their life: going to the dentist. My opinion suggests that having a toothache must be the worst nightmare of my childhood and my life. Therefore, I am familiar with that dental clinic.

I select a more abstract mode of expression and use a depressing colour scheme to convey the suffering I can relate to. Meanwhile, I also demonstrate the dual pain experienced during treatment by using two distinct colour schemes, grey and vibrant. I hope this project can arouse resonate.

To show the double pain, I designed a page of sketch lines and a page of final work with each unique explanation word. The sketch lines were printed on sulphate sheets to achieve light transmittance, and the finished graphic was printed on muted powdered paper. Then I combined these two parts by pulling the cards in and out. The sketch lines with a black backdrop are visible when you pull the colourful card out; the finished piece with a white background is visible when you pull it back in. -
